Neighboring the Larcis Ducasse estate, at the behest of owner François Mitjaville, Château Tertre Roteboeuf is an unclassified Saint Emilion Grand Cru, even though it deserves to be classed amongst the best of its appellation. Located 35km east of Bordeaux the 5,7 hectares of vines (planted at around 6,500 vines per hectare) are rooted in clay soil typical of the southern part of Saint-Emilion. The average vine is over 40 years old and the vineyard, which consists of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, is managed in "lutte raisonnée". Tertre Rotebœuf produces no white wines...

Château Tertre Rotebœuf produces a single red wine, the "Grand Vin de Tertre Rotebœuf". The wine is intense, richly extracted and lush. The texture is sticky and thick thanks to late harvests and displays notes of roasted coffee. When young, it is flamboyantly fruity (cherry and blackcurrant jam) yet surprisingly marked by new oak. With age the tannins dissipate and reveal a great wine for laying down: the Grand Vin de Tertre Rotebœuf will keep from at least 5 years and will improve for up to 15 years for classic vintages, going as far as 25 years in excellent vintages like 1990. Since his arrival at the head of the estate, François Mitjaville has elevated the wine to a famous, rare and sought-after Grand cru. Its modernity and quality has been particularly underlined by international critics, with excellent scores of up to 98/100. The best vintages of Tertre Roteboeuf are 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2000, 1998, 1995, 1990, 1989 and 1988. Its incredible quality and great reputation make it a highly sought-after wine by amateurs.
