The wines of Alain Voge
Domaine Voge is located in Cornas, in the Rhone valley. It is one of the most renowned estate of the designation. Voge estate was created by Henri Voge (Alain's grandfather). Alain's father died prematurely, that's why in 1965 he took over after his grandfather and developed bottling for the estate's wines (that used to be directly sold to the trade). The Alain Voge estate owns many great vineyards that are mostly located on the hillsides, and that covers 13 Ha, all in all, including 7 Ha of Rhone red (100% Syrah) in Cornas, 1 Ha in St Joseph, and 5 Ha of 100% white Marsanne located in Saint Peray Protected Designation of Origin. The biodynamic conversion of the estate started in 2006. It was fully achieved in 2013. With many old vines plots, the Alain Voge estate gets quality grapes to create different cuvees, among the wide range that they produce. In the Saint Peray Protected Designation of Origin, the Harmony, Ongrie, and Fleur de Crussol cuvees are produced. Fleur de Crussol is the most successful one (made from 70-year old vines). There is also a cuvee named Les Bulles d'Alain that produces a sparkling Brut Nature Saint Peray, 100% Marsanne, in the traditional way. In 2015, the Saint Joseph cuvee that was called Les Vinsonnes was renamed Les Cotes, from the plot name of the Mauves village. In the Cornas Protected Designation of Origin, the estate produces three cuvees: Les Chailles, Les Vieilles Vignes, and Les Vieilles Fontaines. The vines used to produce Les Chailles are located at the bottom of the hillside, they grow on a more fertile soil, which shows the savoir-faire of the estate in this Protected Designation of Origin. The Vieilles Vignes cuvee (60 years old wines) comes from smaller plots located halfway up the hillside. This Cornas wine displays great consistency, with spice and chocolate notes. The Vieilles Fontaines cuvee was created in 1988 and comes from the estate's oldest vines (80 years old) that grow on a terroir composed of granite soils only, in a town called "La Fontaine". This wine is only produced in the best years (2009, 2010, 2012, 2015), and it is the epitome of a Cornas wine: concentrated, voluptuous, impressively powerful and with great ageing potential. The 2010 vintages received the best mark of 100/100 from Robert Parker... All the wines of the estates are to be recommenced, and international critics have been full of praise for these wines, which consequently led to a significant rise in prices (especially for the Vieilles Fontaines cuvee).
