Château d'Yquem, the undisputed jewel of Sauternes, reinvents the world of sweet wines with an almost alchemical savoir-faire. The 1966 vintage, the fruit of a harmonious blend of Sémillon (75%) and Sauvignon Blanc (25%), was born on a terroir of gravel and clay, cradled by the mists of the Ciron, which allow the noble rot to work its magic. Vinified with the precision of a goldsmith - successive selections and a patient three-year ageing period in new barrels - it reveals a bewitching bouquet of acacia honey, roasted peach and saffron, enhanced by a hint of minerality. On the palate, richness melts into vibrant freshness, offering a finish almost suspended in time. This luminous nectar goes equally well with a fine citrus tart or a blue-veined cheese. A veritable time capsule, this 1966 is a living treasure to be savored slowly and in wonder.
