Château de Fieuzal, located in Léognan in the Pessac-Léognan region of Bordeaux, has been managed since 2007 by Stephen Carrier under the ownership of Brenda and Lochlann Quinn, an Irish couple who purchased the estate in 2001. Classified as a Grand Cru in 1959, this 75-hectare vineyard thrives on gravelly soils. The Fieuzal 1988 cuvée, a still red wine, blends approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot, vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged in barrels, showcasing the structured style of this vintage.
On tasting, this wine reveals an evolved garnet hue and an intense nose of preserved blackcurrant, leather, and tobacco, with woody hints. On the palate, it offers a dense texture, tannins softened by age, and an austere finish, marked by notes of graphite and spice. Perfect with game in sauce or matured cheese, the Fieuzal 1988 captivates with its maturity and classic Bordeaux character.
