Domaine Gauby estate wines: buy at the best price

The history of Domaine Gauby begins with Gérard Gauby, who vinified his grapes on 3 hectares after an international career as a rugby player. It is his grandson, also named Gérard, who now holds the reins and who gave Domaine Gauby its full resonance among the wines of the Roussillon in the 1990s. Today, accompanied by his son Lionel and his wife Ghislaine, the family is in constant pursuit of improvement and acts as a driving force on the terroir of Calce, which is home to a large share of the best winemakers in the Roussillon. Domaine Gauby is located 20km from Perpignan and spreads across nearly 85 hectares, including 45 hectares of vines, predominantly red. The oldest vines are up to 125 years old, and Domaine Gauby extends amid oak forests, garrigue, wild, rugged and hilly terrain with elevation differences of up to 300 metres.

Under the impetus of Lionel Gauby, and thanks to their tireless work in the soils and the vineyard, phenolic maturities are reached more quickly, making it possible to obtain wines with a lighter alcohol content, as was the case with their delicious 2014. The vines are worked following the principles of biodynamics and the wines are neither fined nor filtered.

Domaine Gauby produces in red some Côtes du Roussillon Villages of pure elegance, structured and dense, with great ageing potential on the top cuvées (Les Calcinaires, Vieilles Vignes or Muntada, blends of grenache noir, carignan, mourvèdre, syrah) as well as Vins de Pays des Côtes Catalanes that express in white a magnificent aromatic freshness (Les Calcinaires: muscat, maccabeu, chardonnay, Vieilles Vignes, Coume Gineste: grenache blanc, grenache gris). Gauby will also delight you with a small, yet no less fabulous, production of Rivesaltes, Caricia based on grenache noir.

The wines of Domaine Gauby are benchmarks for lovers of "Grand wines" from Roussillon and require time. A few years are not too many to reveal themselves, and ten to fifteen do not frighten the great cuvées. 2014 was marked by its finesse, while 2015 struck a perfect balance between the richness of Roussillon and elegance. The Vieilles Vignes are thus dense, elegant and straightforward on the palate, with extraordinary length in the whites and striking vitality in the reds. With the Jasse 2016, which builds on the success of the 2015, Domaine Gauby offers you its first vintage of this muscat made with skin-contact maceration.
