The Boisson family estate in Meursault in Burgundy

Wines from Boisson Vadot, Anne Boisson and Pierre Boisson estates: buy at the best price

The estate is divided into three entities: the parents represented by the Boisson Vadot estate (3.5Ha), the son through the Pierre Boisson entity (3.5Ha) and the daughter with Anne Boisson (1.5Ha). The majority of the plots are located in the Meursault, Auxey Duresses, Bourgogne Aligoté appellations. However, the family also owns Pinot Noir vines in Pommard and Monthélie. There is something Coche-Dury-esque about the white Burgundies from these three entities. The friendship between the sons of the two estates may well have something to do with it.

Domaine Boisson-Vadot (3.5 ha)

Domaine Boisson-Vadot is the historic unit around which the entire family reputation in Meursault was built. Founded by Bernard Boisson and his wife, born Vadot, the estate's name merging the two family lineages, this 3.5-hectare vineyard represents the original heritage — that of the first vines planted in the 1940s and 1950s on the Côte de Beaune. Since Bernard's retirement in 2016 and the official takeover by Anne and Pierre in 2017, Domaine Boisson-Vadot continues to exist as its own entity, representing the parents' share in the tripartite division of the family vineyard.

Terroir & Vines of Domaine Boisson-Vadot

The parcels of Domaine Boisson-Vadot are concentrated primarily in the village of Meursault and its immediate surroundings (Auxey-Duresses, Monthélie), with a few red wine vines in Pommard as well. It was Bernard Boisson who, over the course of the 1980s and 1990s, patiently acquired and assembled this vineyard, parcel by parcel. Among the most emblematic lieu-dits of the estate are the Meursault Les Grands Charrons, planted in 1988 and long vinified under the Boisson-Vadot label, whose gently sloping limestone soils, close to the Gouttes d'Or, yield generous and structured wines with aromas of hazelnut, toasted almond and citrus. The Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières, situated between Les Poruzots and Les Charmes, was the crown jewel of the range: a great wine for ageing, concentrated, complex, endowed with impressive tension and minerality.

Winemaking at Domaine Boisson-Vadot

The winemaking philosophy of Domaine Boisson-Vadot rests on a simple and unwavering principle: allowing the vine and the terroir to express themselves without interference. Soil ploughing, manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, long ageing in oak barrels with very little new wood (never more than 30% for the top cuvées, much less for the villages and Bourgogne), and bottling without filtration. This non-interventionist approach, inherited from Bernard's peasant common sense, is the technical signature of the estate.

Pierre Boisson (3.5 ha)

Pierre Boisson embodies the central figure of the new generation in Meursault. Responsible for all the family's winemaking since his arrival at the estate in 2004, he is the qualitative driving force of the Boisson venture. His personal vineyard of 3.5 hectares is the largest of the three entities, and his range of wines is also the most diverse, spanning from single-parcel Bourgogne Blanc from century-old vines to Meursault village wines and reds from the Côte de Beaune. A long-standing friend of Raphaël Coche, son of Jean-François Coche of the legendary Domaine Coche-Dury, Pierre enriches his practice through numerous exchanges on viticulture and winemaking, which is reflected in the profile of his wines: precise, mineral, of great purity.

Terroir & Parcels of Domaine Pierre Boisson

Pierre Boisson tends, among others, the Meursault Les Grands Charrons (planted in 1988), one of the most expressive and defining cuvées of the estate, as well as a Meursault village from the lieu-dits Criots and Perchots, inherited from his grandmother, whose vines aged between 30 and 50 years produce exemplary wines for the appellation. His Bourgogne Blancs represent an absolute reference range for the enthusiast: since 2018, Pierre has isolated two exceptional parcels into distinct cuvées — Les Herbeaux (vines from 1961) and Murgey de Limozin (vines from 1924), the latter from century-old vines offering concentration and depth unmatched for a regional appellation wine. In 2020, he added Les Belles Côtes to this ensemble.

Winemaking at Domaine Pierre Boisson

Pierre Boisson champions a style of wines that are taut, upright and mineral, with a characteristic aromatic evolution: toasty and reductive upon opening, which gradually gives way, with aeration or years of cellaring, to delicate notes of citrus, white flowers and limestone minerality. The ageing is long, between 19 and 22 months depending on the cuvée, in French oak barrels with minimal use of new wood, favouring old barrels to let the terroir express itself alone. The lees stirring, carried out around twenty times per year, brings roundness and volume without ever weighing down the structure. Bottling is done without filtration, guaranteeing a living substance and an exceptional ageing potential.

Anne Boisson (1.5 ha)

With 1.5 hectares, Anne Boisson runs the smallest of the three family entities, but certainly one of the most refined. Having arrived at the estate in 2004 alongside her brother Pierre, Anne has developed over the vintages a signature of her own: wines of remarkable elegance and finesse, more feminine and delicate in their expression, with a crystalline minerality that makes them particularly seductive in their youth while conferring on them a fine aptitude for ageing. A rigorous and perfectionist winemaker, she brings a singular perspective to exceptional parcels, from which she draws immediately identifiable wines.

Terroir & Parcels of Domaine Anne Boisson

Anne Boisson is at the helm of particularly well-situated parcels in Meursault. She produces, among others, the Meursault Chevalières (vines planted in 1982), whose very stony, cool and wind-exposed terroir yields a wine of remarkable minerality and tension, often described as close to a premier cru in its qualitative level. She also vinifies the Meursault Sous la Velle, from vines planted between 1947 and 1990, in a more slender and refined style, as well as the Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières (vines from 1975), the crown jewel of her range, a fine wine from Burgundy built for very long ageing. Her Bourgogne Aligoté cuvée, from 65-year-old vines, is considered one of the finest expressions of this grape variety on the Côte de Beaune.

Winemaking at Domaine Anne Boisson

Anne Boisson's style is distinguished by great aromatic delicacy and a fine mineral tension. Her Meursaults never seek power or opulence, but rather purity, uprightness and length. As with the entire family estate, the viticultural practices are respectful (ploughing, manual harvesting, no chemical inputs), and the winemaking favours indigenous yeasts, measured ageing in oak barrels with very little new wood, regular but light lees stirring, and bottling without filtration. The ageing of her wines lasts on average 18 to 20 months.
