From a family of winemakers in Cravant in Burgundy, Bernard Baudry trained in viticulture in Beaune and then worked as a viticultural consultant at the Tours laboratory. It was in 1975 that he created Domaine Bernard Baudry, located in the communes of Cravant les Coteaux and Chinon, in the Val de Loire. At the time, the estate had only 2 hectares of vines but reached 30 hectares by 1982. His son Matthieu joined the family estate in 2000 after studying in the Mâconnais, the Bordeaux region and California. Today the estate spans 32 hectares planted with red (30 hectares) and white (2 hectares) varieties.

The Domaine Baudry vineyard is planted with Cabernet Franc grape variety (90%) and Chenin Blanc grape variety (10%). The vines are on average thirty years old and rest on a terroir of gravel in the plain, clay-limestone on the hillsides and sandy limestone on the plateaus. The vineyard is cultivated using environmentally friendly methods, without chemical herbicides. Since 2006, Domaine Bernard Baudry has been certified organic. The wines are classified under the Chinon appellation. Domaine Bernard Baudry produces 140,000 bottles per year. Harvesting is manual and vinification aims to be minimally interventionist. The grapes from each parcel are vinified separately, distributed in different vats made of raw cement, wood or stainless steel. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts. Aging is done in vats for supple wines and in barrels for more complex wines. Bottling is done without filtration except for rosé wines, white wines and the Les Granges cuvée. The Chinon wines from Domaine Baudry are fruity and supple wines like the Les Granges cuvée and the Le Domaine cuvée, but also more structured wines with exceptionally fine tannins like the La Croix Boissée, Le Clos Guillot and Les Grézeaux cuvées.
