Domaine Marc Delienne: Beaujolais Fleurie in the spotlight
Domaine Marc DELIENNE is located in Fleurie in the Beaujolais region and encompasses 14 hectares of vineyard. After a Parisian career in IT and banking, Marc Delienne, a passionate wine lover from the very beginning, decided to take the plunge and make a living from his passion.
Moving from the glass to the vine, he set his sights on Provence, where he trained notably with Eloi DURBACH at the domaine de Trévallon. In 2015, he created his own estate in Fleurie, convinced of the region's potential to produce great wines, and immediately began converting the estate to organic viticulture, then to biodynamics one year later. The DELIENNE estate is now also on the verge of receiving DEMETER certification. The soil is primarily composed of sand and silt, and all 14 hectares of gamay vines (aged between 40 and 80 years) are cultivated using biodynamic methods, in keeping with the terroir. Marc Delienne's bold gamble is on the verge of paying off, as he has rapidly become one of the reference estates on the Beaujolais "natural" wine scene, producing natural wines that remain consistently fresh and balanced. In the winery, vinifications are carried out as naturally as possible, without additives. Once the whole harvest has been sorted, the concrete vats are filled without the addition of yeasts or chaptalization. Macerations are relatively short, and the wines are mostly transferred to large oak barrels as soon as pressing is complete. Since the winemaker's first vintages, he has been recognized for producing wines that are both pleasurable and balanced, with fine tannins and notes of red fruits and blueberry. The Fleurie cuvée "Maurice" was created in 2018 in tribute to his late neighbour and friend, who had welcomed Marc Delienne so warmly upon his arrival in Fleurie. "Maurice" is fresh, with an enticing fruitiness, energetic, very easy to drink and displaying both finesse and great drinkability. The Fleurie cuvée "Abbaye Road" is probably the estate's most ambitious wine, as it comes from very high-quality sandy or sandy-silty soils located to the south-east of Fleurie, sometimes with a very stony surface layer. The result of a blend of selected wines aged in large oak barrels for 11 months, this cuvée displays greater concentration than the other cuvées while retaining the freshness and precision that are the hallmark of the estate. The palate is full and deep, with notes of black fruits (plum) and gentle oriental spices. The other Fleurie cuvées from the DELIENNE estate, such as the refined and powerful "Greta Carbo", the energetic and fruity "Avalanche de Printemps", and "La Vigne des Fous" with its exotic and floral bouquet, are all highly recommended.
