Domaine Marc Delienne: Beaujolais Fleurie in the spotlight
Domaine Marc DELIENNE is located in Fleurie in the Beaujolais region and encompasses 14 hectares of vineyard. After a Parisian career in IT and banking, Marc Delienne, a passionate wine lover from the very beginning, decided to take the plunge and make a living from his passion.
Moving from glass to vine, he set course for Provence where he trained notably with Eloi DURBACH at Domaine de Trévallon. In 2015 he created his own estate in Fleurie, convinced of the potential of the Beaujolais region to produce great wines, and he immediately began converting the estate to organic viticulture, then to biodynamics 1 year later. Domaine DELIENNE is now also on track to be DEMETER certified. The soil is mainly composed of sand and silt, and the entire 14 hectares of gamay vines (aged between 40 and 80 years) are cultivated in biodynamics, with respect for the terroir. Marc Delienne's bold gamble is about to succeed as he quickly becomes one of the reference estates of the "Natural" scene in Beaujolais, producing natural wines whose structure always remains fresh and balanced. In the winery, vinifications are carried out in the most natural way possible, without additives. Once the whole harvest is sorted, the concrete vats are filled, without yeast addition or chaptalization. Macerations are relatively short, and the wines are placed in foudres for the most part, as soon as pressing is completed. Since the winemaker's first vintages, he has been recognized for producing gourmet and balanced wines, with fine tannins, and notes of red fruits and blueberry. The Fleurie cuvée "Maurice" was created in 2018 in tribute to his deceased neighbor and friend, who had welcomed Marc Delienne so well upon his arrival in Fleurie. "Maurice" is fresh, with enticing fruitiness, energetic, very digestible and demonstrating both finesse and great drinkability. The Fleurie cuvée "Abbaye Road" probably represents the estate's most ambitious cuvée, as it comes from very high-quality sandy or silty-sandy soils, located in the southeast of Fleurie, sometimes with very stony coverage. Made from a blend of different selected wines aged in foudres for 11 months, this cuvée presents a concentration superior to that of the other cuvées while maintaining a freshness and precision that are the estate's hallmark. The palate is full and deep, with notes of black fruits (plum) and sweet oriental spices. The other Fleurie cuvées from Domaine DELIENNE, such as the fine and powerful "Greta Carbo", the energetic and fruity "Avalanche de Printemps", and "La Vigne des Fous" with its exotic and floral bouquet, are all highly recommendable.
