Wines from Château de Fargues: buy at the best price

Château de Fargues is an unclassified growth because the château did not exist at the time of the 1855 classification: the vineyard was created in the late 1930s by Bertrand de Lur-Saluces and produced its first vintage in 1943 (bottled in 47). Now managed by Alexandre de Lur-Saluces, the château was built in 1306 and has always belonged to the family since 1472. Located next to Château Rieussec, 45km from Bordeaux, the 17-hectare vineyard is cultivated using integrated pest management on a soil of gravelly clay ridges. The vines, aged 35 years, are divided between two grape varieties: 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon...

Le domaine De Fargues produces only one cuvée of white wine, with an output of 15,000 to 18,000 bottles per year, named the « Grand vin du Château De Fargues ». This golden white wine offers a complex aromatic palette, with aromas of tropical fruits, pineapple, mandarin, peach, orange, quince, caramel and tea. This wine is both complete and intense, with a long and velvety finish. The Château De Fargues cuvée was not produced in 1972, 1974, 1992 or 2012. The fine wine has a truly remarkable ageing potential and can improve over 8 to 25 years and well beyond in the greatest vintages. The estate's great vintages are: 2015, 2014, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2001, 1997, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1986, 1983 and 1975. The international critical reception for this château is generally excellent, with Robert Parker scores frequently ranging between 92 and 96/100. Château de Fargues is also awarded 3 stars in the RVF (Revue du Vin de France) green guide. The wine's style is relatively close to that of the celebrated Château d'Yquem, as its manager is none other than Alexandre Lur-Saluces, who also runs the domaine De Fargues. This last point makes the wines of Château De Fargues choice bottles for lovers of Sauternes wines.
