Chassagne Montrachet village of the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, which gives its name to a designation of great Burgundy white wines, made from the Chardonnay while the Burgundy red wines it is made from Pinot Noir, over 300 ha. If the red wines are excellent with some lovely 1er crus coming from the south of the village, on limestone and marl soils, it is the production of great whites wines that has made Chassagne Montrachet's reputation. Notably its Grands Crus, Le Montrachet and Batard Montrachet, which also extend over the neighboring commune of Puligny, and Criots Batard Montrachet, entirely over Chassagne. More mineral than Meursault, Chassagne Montrachet is elegant, with buttered and biscuit notes with dried fruit and spices. Some of the best producers include Ramonet and Fontaine Gagnard.
