Jean-François Coche, seconded by his son Raphaël Coche, produces wines that Chardonnay lovers and particularly critics and those enamoured by white Burgundy, go wild over. Domaine Coche Dury covers over 10.5 hectares of which 9 ares in Meursault.
The wines are stylistically difficult to miss: linear, marked by hazelnuts and struck-match and exceptionally long. The more prestigious cuvées see 50% new oak and, contrary to other Burgundian wineries, on average see 2 more months of barrel ageing, i.e. 20 instead of 18. They are bottled by hand without filtration. It is difficult to decide which Meursault is their finest, so much so is the quality level equal across their range. All their wines are sought-after, but perhaps none as much as their Corton Charlemagne, which can make even the most obsessive see stars. Their red Burgundy, though less reputed than their whites, are made with as much attention as the whites.
