The 1966 vintage is an outstanding vintage thanks to ideal climatic conditions. The Champagne is a fine example of this great 1966 vintage with 1966 vintage champagnes that are very elegant, like the iconic Champagne Krug 1966 or Champagne Charles Heidsieck Special Cuvee Charles Heidsieck 1966. In Bordeaux, the 1966 vintage is between the exceptional 1961 and 1970. The red wines of the Graves and the red wines of the Medoc are more delicate than the grand crus of 1966 Saint Estephe, more powerful, and with better aging potential. In Burgundy, the wines are more disparate on the 1966 vintage. The red wines are remarkably balanced, we find the radiance of the fruit and the elegance of the king of Burgundy grape variety, Pinot Noir. The best wines produced in this 1966 vintage were from Morey Saint Denis, Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanee.

For 1966 Rhone wines, look at red wines on designations like 1966 Chateauneuf du Pape in Southern Rhone and 1966 Cote Rotie on the Northern Rhone. Also, the sweet natural wines from Roussillon, Rivesaltes or Maury are still brilliant to taste today and you will have some nice surprises abroad as well, on Barolo and Brunello in Italy .
