A very fine 1995 vintage for Bordeaux wines (harvestlarge in volume) , marked by a very hot period from June to August, followed by a 10 day rainy episode in September. The Pomerol, Saint Julien and Pauillac designations were less watered. Then good weather, which allowed to harvest beautiful mature Cabernets Sauvignon. Consequently, the wines of 1995 are particularly successful in the following designations: 1995 Pauillac, 1995 Pessac Leognan red, 1995 Pomerol, 1995 Saint Emilion and 1995 Saint Julien. Are also successful all the 1ers Crus Classes in the Medoc (left bank). In 1995 white Bordeaux wine the vintage is more heterogeneous, and can be considered as fairly average for 1995 Sauternes. An early and good year for 1995 Burgundy, but having produced a limited volume of grapes, which allows the 1995 red wines from the Cote de Nuits to be supple but structured, and the white wines from 1995 in the Cote de Beaune, to be sufficiently concentrated and rich to be preserved (watch out however for the premature oxidation of certain whites sometimes). In Champagne, the Chardonnays from 1995 are very balanced, lively and of good aging potential. As far as Rhone wines are concerned, Syrah has an advantage: beautiful 1995 Cote Rotie and superb 1995 Cornas. The 1995 vintage is warmer in Southern Rhone, but the wines can be kept for a long time. The wines are attractive in Loire (the reds are to be kept) and 1995 is the first vintage of a magic trilogy for the sweet white wines from Loire (1995/1996/1997). The 1995 Rieslings from Alsace are on call, thanks to their superb acidity. We can note that in 1995, in the South West of France, Madiran wines deserve a special mention.
Many wines from Bordeaux 1995 can be recommended, including the Crus Classes de Margaux 1995, Pauillac, Saint Estephe and Saint Julien such as: 1995 Calon Segur, 1995 Cos Estournel, 1995 Montrose, 1995 Ducru Beaucaillou, 1995 Leoville Las Cases, 1995 Latour, 1995 Lafite Rothschild and 1995 Mouton Rothschild, 1995 Pichon Comtesse de Lalande, 1995 Chateau Margaux. In Pessac Leognan treat yourself with 1995 Haut Brion and 1995 La Mission Haut Brion. As for Pomerol and St Emilion: 1995 Clinet, 1995 Eglise Clinet, 1995 La Fleur de Gay, 1995 Petrus, 1995 Le Pin, 1995 Trotanoy, 1995 Angelus, 1995 Ausone, 1995 Canon La Gaffeliere, 1995 Magdelaine, 1995 Monbousquet, 1995 Troplong Mondot… In Burgundy, the 1995 Corton Charlemagne and 1995 Romanee Saint Vivant are wines of excellence that can always age. In Champagne, a tasty 1995 Blanc des Millenaire from Charles Heidsieck (blanc de blanc, to be kept). Regarding the wines of the Northern Rhone, 1995 Cote Rotie from Guigal or 1995 Cornas and 1995 Hermitage will delight fans, and in the Loire Valley, why not a sweet 1995 wine from Coteaux du Layon? Finally, 1995 Alain Brumont's Madiran stands out (1995 Montus and XXL).
