History of Château Le Puy

Château Le Puy, located in the Bordeaux wine region, has a rich and fascinating history dating back over 400 years. Founded in the early 17th century (1610), this family estate has been passed down from generation to generation, thus perpetuating a centuries-old viticultural heritage. Rooted in tradition and passion, Château Le Puy embodies the very essence of viticultural craftsmanship, where respect for the terroir and sustainable viticultural practices have always been at the heart of its identity.

14 generations of winemakers have thus passed on the torch, with the predominant role of the Amoreau family, particularly in the spirit of independence and freedom that has guided the property to make it a pioneer in the region. A true success story for the Château, which has managed to escape Bordeaux Bashing, thanks to its natural practices in particular.

Terroirs, Vines and Vinification at Château Le Puy

The vineyards of Château Le Puy extend over exceptional terroirs between Saint Emilion and Pomerol, imbued with a geological and climatic diversity specific to the Bordeaux region. Nestled on the Côteau des Merveilles near Saint-Cibard, the clay-limestone soils benefit from optimal exposure, and the estate's vines thrive under the benevolent influence of the temperate oceanic climate. Committed to preserving the natural balance of the ecosystem, the estate practices biodynamic viticulture, favoring environmentally respectful methods and promoting the purest expression of terroir in its wines.

The vines, aged between 35 and 50 years, thus extend over about fifty hectares, even though the total property covers a hundred: a large area is dedicated to forests, ponds, meadows, and pastures. Thus, a truly balanced ecosystem persists and develops. A beautiful harmony between the vine, man, and his environment to produce organic and biodynamic wines. The estate has been certified organic and biodynamic since 1990.

Vinification at Château Le Puy is orchestrated with meticulous care and precision. The grapes, hand-harvested at perfect maturity, are vinified with meticulous care, favoring non-interventionist techniques to preserve the authenticity of the fruit. No additives are used in the cellar: spontaneous fermentations (including malolactic) take place in open vats with submerged cap to avoid punching down and provide oxygenation. A very small amount of sulfur is added during racking. Aging in barrels or foudres, through settling (Cuvée Emilien) or dynamization (Cuvée Barthélémy), can last up to 2 years. No new wood is used to respect the aromas naturally present in the wines and to favor micro-oxygenation; the wines are then neither fined nor filtered.

The Cuvées of Château Le Puy

Château Le Puy offers a range of cuvées of incomparable elegance and finesse, reflecting the quintessence of the Bordeaux terroir. Among its emblematic wines, one finds red vintages of remarkable depth and intensity, expressing all the richness and complexity of traditional Bordeaux grape varieties, such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Each cuvée embodies the very essence of Château Le Puy, combining tradition, expertise, and passion to offer wines of exceptional quality, worthy of Bordeaux's greatest terroirs.

The names of the cuvées derive from the first names of the family's ancestors: delicious organic and biodynamic wines to taste!

Emilien: the estate's historic cuvée, delicious young and more complex after some time in the cellar.

Barthélémy: an excellent, meticulously cared-for single-vineyard cuvée!
