Cote Rotie is the oldest and one of the most prestigious designation of the Northern Rhone Valley. This appellation covers 308 ha of very steep granite terraces covered with a silica-limestone layer in Cote Blonde while clay and iron oxide in the Cote Brune, but only 119 ha are planted. Left for dead in the 1970s, this terroir owes its rebirth to Marcel Guigal, owner of the famous parcels of La Mouline, La Landonne, La Turque and for its fame, in large part, to Robert Parker, also renowed for his Bordeaux tasting. Its red wines are made from Syrah with a maximum of 20% of the Viognier, white grape variety, being authorised in the blend. The colour is very dark, they are tannic and rich, with spicy, peppery, blackcurrant, blackberry, even tapenade aromas. For the best wines can easily age for several decades.
