The wines of Château Calon Ségur
The chateau Calon Segur was bought at the end of 2012 by the Suravenir Assurances company. It is located on the left bank of the Gironde, North of Bordeaux, and is qualified third great classed growth (grand cru classé) of the appellation Saint Estephe (1855 classification). The vineyard is largely surrounded by an outer wall and extends over 45 hectares of vines, planted on a hilly terrain of gravelly sand. The estate's vines are 25 years old on average, and they are taken care of in a sustainable viticulture way. As for the encepagement (grape varieties selection), the vineyard is planted with 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
