Champagne is a fine example of this very great 1966 vintage, with highly elegant vintage Champagnes , such as the iconic Champagne Krug 1966 or Champagne Charles Heidsieck Cuvée Spéciale Charles Heidsieck 1966. In Bordeaux, the 1966 vintage sits between the exceptional 1961 and 1970. The red wines of the Graves and the red wines of the Médoc are more delicate than the great classified growths of Saint Estèphe 1966, which are more powerful and present a better ageing potential. In Burgundy, the picture is more uneven for the 1966 vintage. The red wines are remarkably balanced, reflecting the brilliance of the fruit and the elegance of Burgundy's king grape variety, Pinot Noir. The finest wines produced in this 1966 vintage came from Morey Saint Denis, Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée.
