From iconic Musigny wines to famous Clos de la Marechale
The wines of Domaine Jacques Frederic Mugnier
Located in the village of Chambolle Musigny in the heart of the Cote de Nuits, in Burgundy, the estate was created in 1863. The domaine Mugnier is now run by Frédéric Mugnier, who is Jacques Frédéric Mugnier's great-grandson. With vines growing on limestone and clay-limestone soils, the Mugnier estate covers almost 14 hectares, of which 1 hectare is reserved to the white Burgundy wines.
The Domaine Mugnier produces two Bourgogne Grands Crus: the Bonnes Mares and the Musigny, of wonderful constitution and great aromatic class, with perfectly balanced tannins and woods, this really well made wine was acclaimed by critics with a 18.5/20 mark from Bettane & Desseauve. As for the Bourgogne Premiers Crus, the Chambolle Musigny Premier cru les Amoureuses2014 is described as a very lovely wine with a wonderful salinity to it, showing power but also a beautiful freshness. The famous Nuits St Georges Premier cru Clos de la Marechale is the most iconic wine of the Jacques Frederic Mugnier estate. With its 9 hectares of vines, it is the largest monopoly of the Côte d'Or region; and for its 2013 vintage, its particularly silky tannins, with the extra power that are usual to this designation of origin, creates a delicate character quite uncommon for this wine. The most successful vintages for these red Burgundy wines are 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2002, and the ageing potential of Jacques Frederic Mugnier wines is of more than 15 years.
