Domaine Robert Groffier, a magnificent terroir in Morey Saint Denis, Burgundy
This family estate was created by Robert Groffier in the 19th century. The majority of the plots was bought in 1930. Nicolas Groffier has been running the estate since 2005. Located in the village of Morey Saint Denis, the Domaine Groffier estate covers 8 hectares and produces only red Burgundy wines from Pinot Noir. The Groffier estate's soils are made of limestone and clay-limestone and the vines are cultivated in sustainable agriculture.
The Robert Groffier estate produces two Burgundy Grands Crus: Bonnes Mares and Chambertin Clos de Beze. In 2013, the Bonnes Mares gave the wine of beautiful colour, with particularly pure fruity tones and a very nice texture. It's a wine of a high class which was greatly crafted. It received great reviews, with 18/20 marks from Bettane & Desseauve and Revue des Vins de France. As for the Domaine Groffier's Chambertin Clos de Beze 2013, it has a great colour and very intense with pure red fruit notes which are as impressive as for the Bonnes Mares. There are also three Premiers Crus in Chambolle Musigny: les Hauts Doix, les Sentiers, and the famous Chambolle Musigny Premier cru les Amoureuses. The latter, for the 2014 vintage, is full of intensity and length, with very fine, elegant and silky tannins. Two other red wines are produced by the Domaine Groffier: a Gevrey Chambertin les Seuvrée, and a red Bourgogne wine with great precision, and marvellous, refined texture. We are far beyond the standard of the appellation. The most popular vintages are the years 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2002.
