The mixed soils — half gravel resting on clay and half deep black clay, on a bed of iron-rich crasse de fer — lend the wine both power and depth as well as great complexity. This ferruginous subsoil, typical of the finest terroirs of Pomerol, is one of the estate's distinctive hallmarks. The 7.2-hectare vineyard is strategically located on the western side of the Pomerol plateau, benefiting from a particularly favourable exposure for the full ripening of Merlot.
