The Domaine Jules Desjourneys is currently under the direction of winemaker Fabien Duperray, whose experience was forged alongside some of the most eminent winemakers in Burgundy, notably the brothers Arnaud Ente and Benoit Ente, Christophe Perrot-Minot, and Jean-Yves Bizot. After acquiring considerable expertise, the desire to create his own wines and his own estate led him to venture into the Beaujolais, further south, and subsequently to expand his estate with plots located in Saint-Véran, Pouilly-Vinzelles and Pouilly-Fuissé, in the Mâconnais. You will therefore find wines from Burgundy and Beaujolais in this category.

Philosophy and Approach: Domaine Jules Desjourneys is guided by respect for nature and terroir. Winemaker Jules Desjourneys is known for his commitment to biodynamic viticulture and his refusal to use chemical inputs. He aims to let the character of the terroir fully express itself in his wines.

Vineyard Area: Domaine Jules Desjourneys has a relatively small vineyard area, but pays close attention to every plot. The vines are located in some of Beaujolais’s finest crus, notably Fleurie, Moulin à Vent and Chénas. 

Grape Varieties Grown: Jules Desjourneys focuses primarily on Gamay for his red wines. Gamay is a grape variety that expresses itself particularly well in Beaujolais, producing fruity, elegant reds when vinified with care.

Natural Winemaking: The estate is known for its natural winemaking. Jules Desjourneys uses native yeasts for fermentation, avoids adding chemicals and limits the use of sulfur. This approach allows the wines to reflect their terroir more faithfully and retain their natural characteristics.
