Rising Stars of Burgundy

TASTING REPORT

Last September 22nd, Oenoschool offered a session on the theme "Rising Stars of Burgundy": 8 wines for a successful evening!

Bourgogne Aligoté Anne Boisson 2009

Relatively pale color for a sunny vintage. The nose is relatively closed, the palate is full-bodied for an aligoté, balancing sharp acidity with citrus and stone fruit notes. A refreshing wine with great volume

Auxey Duresses blanc les Clous Pierre Boisson 2011

Slightly reduced nose with white fruit and citrus notes. On the palate, the acidity is pronounced with notes of plums, exotic fruits, and grapefruit. A lightly oaked wine with beautiful length for a village appellation.

Chablis 1er cru Butteaux Thomas Pico 2011

Pronounced color probably linked to low sulfite content. The nose is open (citrus zest, slightly honeyed and iodine notes). The palate is round and pleasant, very fruity but supported with beautiful tension. A wine that is both straight and round, relatively easy to drink today.

Meursault Clos des Ambres Arnaud Ente 2005

Brilliant golden color. A nose of butter, pastry with some oaky notes. On the palate, the wine is open, powerful but not heavy, the alcohol is not dominant. The wine is very open and relatively long on the palate: a wine at maturity with great balance.

Saint Romain cuvée Absolu 2011 (sulfite-free) Gilles Buisson

Slightly animal nose, which disappears with aeration to give way to floral and blackcurrant notes. The palate is extremely round and inviting and relatively mature. A fruity wine with lovely aromatic complexity.

Beaune 1er cru les Aigrots 2008 Sébastien Magnien

Very pale color with notes of eau-de-vie fruits, peppery and slightly vegetal. On the palate, it's an open wine with beautiful aromatic complexity but with considerable acidity and a slight lack of maturity.

Nuits Saint Georges Georges Noellat 2009 (before change of winemaker)

Relatively pale color, nose of raspberries and floral notes. On the palate, the wine is very fruity with a beautiful balance of acidity/alcohol and significant length for a village appellation. Almost ready to drink

Morey Saint Denis Tres Girard 2010 Cécile Tremblay

Dense and barely evolved color, nose of black fruits and slightly oaked notes. The tasting shows a beautiful balance of freshness and concentration with notes of black fruits, menthol, and beautiful aromatic persistence. Probably the finest wine of the evening along with Pierre Boisson's Auxey Duresses and Thomas Pico's Chablis 1er cru.
