The 1935 vintage in France is considered a mixed year, marked by difficult and irregular weather conditions. Spring was abnormally cold with late frosts, delaying flowering and fruit set. Summer was hot and dry, which allowed for some recovery, but the harvests often suffered from inconsistencies. In Bordeaux, the reds are generally judged as average to acceptable: rather light wines, with little structure, lacking concentration and longevity, quickly forgotten in the shadow of the excellent neighbouring 1934 and 1937 vintages. A few estates nevertheless produced pleasant and elegant bottles. In Burgundy, the vintage is notably more successful, especially for the whites, considered excellent that year, with fine ripeness and outstanding overall quality. The reds are good to very good in the best terroirs. Overall, 1935 remains a rare vintage today, sought after by collectors for its age, but without reaching the legendary status of the truly great years.
