The name Château Trotanoy has its roots in the old French "trop anoi", literally meaning "too much trouble" or "too much toil", referring to the great difficulty imposed by cultivating its dense clay and gravel soils. The vineyard was first planted in 1761, and in its early years the property belonged to the Giraud family, major landowners on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. The acquisition of the estate in 1953 by Jean-Pierre Moueix marked a decisive turning point, considerably shaping the reputation of Pomerol wines. Today, it is the third generation of the Moueix family that perpetuates this legacy of excellence.
