71% of French people believe they do not know much about wine. And you?
The magazine Terre de Vins has just published a survey (conducted by Viavoice) revealing that 71% of French people feel they do not know much about wine. Among them, 43% would even consider that they do not know anything about it at all. A surprising result when we know the importance that the French attach to this product which they consider to be an integral part of their cultural and culinary heritage (78% of French people had welcomed last spring the official entry of wine into French gastronomic heritage).
So why do only 3% of those surveyed say they know "A lot" about it?
According to Viavoice, "it is above all social differences that structure the feeling of knowing about it". The French would therefore still be too elitist in their relationship with wine and wine tasting initiation is not very accessible to the most modest populations.
