Even if the critic is sometimes criticized, obtaining a 100/100 rating from the famous Robert Parker is somewhat like finding the Holy Grail: a difficult path, fraught with obstacles, but one that opens the doors to a bright future for the fortunate winemakers.
Indeed, the wines that have reached it remain relatively few and their price skyrockets upon obtaining it. It is then rare to find a 100/100 for less than €200!
For example, when a Pontet Canet 2009 (RP100/100) is priced at least twice as much as a Pontet Canet 2008 (RP95/100)! Since 1978, approximately 500 wines have been fortunate enough to receive this honorary and highly lucrative title.
France is currently far ahead in this ranking with over 250 cuvées having received the coveted accolade. Just behind are the USA, with around 150 cuvées, then Australia with about thirty honored cuvées (so far behind!).
As for the estates that have received the maximum rating most often, these are Guigal and Chapoutier with over 30 wines each rated 100/100 by Robert Parker. They notably distinguished themselves with their legendary cuvées Côte Rôtie La Mouline, Côte Rôtie La Turque, Côte Rôtie La Landonne for one, Ermitage Pavillon, Ermitage L'Ermite, Ermitage Le Méal, Ermitage de l'Orée for the other.
While Rhône Valley wines (Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage or Châteauneuf du Pape) are highly prized by "Bob", those from Bordeaux are not far behind. It is indeed Pétrus that is his favorite with 9 vintages rated 100/100. On the other hand, for Burgundy lovers, the critic is more demanding: only 11 wines have been super scored over these famous last 40 years: 4 wines from Romanée Conti, 3 from Domaine Leroy and 1 Griotte Chambertin from Claude Dugat... Bob's revenge following the closed doors he often saw rise before him in this region?
While all the estates mentioned above are known to the general public, Robert Parker can also sometimes highlight more modest, more confidential estates producing wines as remarkable as the Monbazillac from Domaine Tirecul La Gravière, the Cornas from Domaines Auguste Clape or Alain Voge, the Saint Emilion from Le Dôme or Peby Faugères...
