A difficult vintage following 2 good years at Bordeaux, with a lack of ripeness in the grapes despite harvests delayed until mid-October. The cold and wet summer did not favour the wines, but some 1er classified Grands Crus in Pauillac (Château Latour and Château Lafite Rotschild) managed to stand out. Poor quality wines in White Bordeaux, and on the Sauternes side, the wines are rather disappointing. In Burgundy, grape ripeness was insufficient due to the rainy summer, and chaptalization was widely used to bolster the wines. No other region stands out particularly, and the 1977 vintage will therefore not really be remembered, all the more so as it was overshadowed by the 2 fine preceding vintages (1975 and 1976).
