Le Clos du Marquis is not a second wine in the traditional sense: for a long time, it was considered a wine in its own right, sourced from distinct parcels within the grand enclos. It offers a more accessible approach to the Las Cases style, less austere in its youth, more supple and fruity, while retaining the elegance characteristic of the Saint-Julien appellation. Since 2007, the estate's true second wine has been called Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases, leaving Le Clos du Marquis its own identity. These two cuvées represent an excellent introduction to the world of the estate.
