Vintage 1977
A difficult vintage following 2 good years in Bordeaux, with a lack of grape ripeness despite harvests delayed until mid-October. The cold and wet summer did not favour the wines, but some 1st classified Grand Crus in Pauillac (Château Latour and Château Lafite Rothschild) managed to stand out. Poor quality wines in white Bordeaux, and in Sauternes, the wines are rather disappointing. In Burgundy, grape ripeness was insufficient due to the rainy summer, and chaptalization was heavily used to bolster the wines. No other region stands out in particular, and the 1977 vintage will therefore not be long remembered, all the more so as it was overshadowed by the 2 fine preceding vintages (1975 and 1976).
