History of Domaine de la Renardière

The adventure of Domaine de la Renardière began in 1990, when Jean-Michel Petit, descendant of a family of winegrowers from Pupillin, decided to break with the cooperative tradition to create his own wines. Accompanied by his wife Laurence, he took over one hectare of family vines, then gradually expanded the estate to reach 7 hectares. Influenced by emblematic figures such as Pierre Overnoy and Pascal Clairet, Jean-Michel adopted from the start an artisanal approach that respects the terroir. In 2018, their son Léo joined the adventure, bringing a touch of modernity while perpetuating the family heritage. Certified organic since 2012 and practicing biodynamics, Domaine de la Renardière has established itself as a reference for Jura wines, combining ancestral know-how and contemporary vision.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Domaine de la Renardière

Located on the steep hillsides of Pupillin, the vineyard of Domaine de la Renardière thrives on soils rich in red marls and limestone, typical of the Jura. These terroirs, composed of Triassic marls (-252 to -201 million years) and Lias (-201 to -174 million years), give the wines a distinctive minerality and natural elegance. The region's emblematic grape varieties – Ploussard (25%), Trousseau (10%), Pinot Noir (10%), Chardonnay (35%), and Savagnin (20%) – thrive on these clayey-limestone soils. Cultivated in organic agriculture since 2010 and in uncertified biodynamics, the thirty-year-old vines are carefully tended: short pruning, manual harvesting, and absence of chemical products guarantee exceptional raw material for pure and vibrant terroir wines.

Vinifications at Domaine de la Renardière

At Domaine de la Renardière, vinification is a minimalist art aimed at revealing the essence of the terroir. The grapes, harvested by hand, are vinified and aged parcel by parcel, an approach that enhances the particularities of each plot. Fermentations rely exclusively on indigenous yeasts, preserving the authenticity of the aromas. Aging, mainly in foudres and demi-muids, takes place in a stone cellar, without recourse to stainless steel. A minimal dose of sulfur (maximum 35 mg/l of total SO₂) is used as the only input, guaranteeing natural and expressive wines. This low-intervention philosophy, combined with biodynamic practices, produces remarkably refined cuvées, faithful reflections of the Jura terroir.

The Cuvées of Domaine de la Renardière

Domaine de la Renardière offers a varied range of wines, from fruity reds to mineral whites, including Jura specialties such as vin jaune and vin de paille. Here is an overview of the cuvées:

Jurassique (Chardonnay)

Made from an assemblage of Chardonnays from the La Marcette (Triassic red marls) and Caillot (limestone scree) terroirs, this wine is aged 18 to 24 months in 400-liter barrels. Flavorful, it reveals slightly oxidative or mineral notes depending on the aging, perfect for accompanying refined dishes.

1966 (Chardonnay)

Vinified by Léo Petit, this Chardonnay from vines planted in 1966 offers melting richness, balanced by mineral tension. Aged in wood, it seduces with its complexity and finesse.

Les Vianderies (Chardonnay)

From a terroir of gravels on marls, this white wine aged in demi-muids reveals a mineral reduction with buttery and toasted accents. A radiant wine that gains harmony with time.

Les Terrasses (Savagnin Ouillé)

Made from Savagnins planted on bituminous schist soils and Triassic marls, this topped-up wine, aged 12 months on lees, offers exotic fruitiness, sharp acidity, and elegant salinity, ideal with white meats or fish.

Savagnin (de voile)

This oxidative cuvée, often a blend of vintages, is aged 40 months under voile. Its complex aromas of walnut, orange, and fino sherry make it a perfect companion for spicy dishes or poularde aux morilles.

L'Oubliée (Chardonnay-Savagnin)

A blend of 75% late-harvested Chardonnay and 25% Savagnin with lively acidity, aged in new barrels. This fascinating wine combines richness and freshness for a unique tasting experience.

Ploussard

This delicate red, typical of the Jura, is vinified from the Ploussard grape variety. Light in color but structured, it offers pure fruitiness and excellent aging potential.

Trousseau à la Dame (Trousseau)

Denser and fruitier, this Trousseau seduces with its discreet power and elegance, perfect for early tasting.

Pinot Noir

Made from 100% destemmed grapes, this Pinot Noir reveals bright fruit and remarkable finesse, characteristic of the estate's red wines.

Crémant du Jura

A fresh and vibrant sparkling wine, carefully crafted to enhance aperitifs or festive moments.

Vin Jaune

This vin jaune embodies Jura tradition with its intense aromas and complexity, ideal for lovers of oxidative wines.

Vin de Paille

This sweet wine, rich in notes of acacia, honey, and saffron, offers rare precision and elegance, perfect for desserts or moments of contemplative tasting.

Macvin du Jura

A liqueur made from marc and grape juice, typical of the Jura, combining power and sweetness for a unique experience.

Domaine de la Renardière is an essential address for lovers of Jura wines seeking authenticity and quality. Through organic and biodynamic viticulture, parcel vinifications, and deep respect for the terroir, Jean-Michel, Laurence, and Léo Petit produce cuvées that capture the essence of Pupillin's red marls.
