History of the Domaine de la Renardière

The adventure of the Domaine de la Renardière began in 1990, when Jean-Michel Petit, descended from a family of winemakers in Pupillin, decided to break with the cooperative tradition to create his own wines. Accompanied by his wife Laurence, he took over one hectare of family vines, then gradually expanded the estate to reach 7 hectares. Influenced by emblematic figures such as Pierre Overnoy and Pascal Clairet, Jean-Michel adopted from the outset an artisanal approach with deep respect for the terroir. In 2018, their son Léo joined the venture, bringing a touch of modernity while carrying on the family legacy. Certified organic since 2012 and practising biodynamics, the Domaine de la Renardière has established itself as a reference for Jurassian wines, combining ancestral expertise with a contemporary vision.

Terroirs and Vineyards of the Domaine de la Renardière

Located on the steep slopes of Pupillin, the vineyard of the Domaine de la Renardière thrives on soils rich in red marls and limestone, typical of the Jura. These terroirs, composed of Triassic marls (−252 to −201 million years old) and Liassic marls (−201 to −174 million years old), impart a distinctive minerality and natural elegance to the wines. The emblematic grape varieties of the region — Ploussard (25%), Trousseau (10%), Pinot Noir (10%), Chardonnay (35%) and Savagnin (20%) — flourish on these clay-limestone soils. Cultivated organically since 2010 and biodynamically (uncertified), the thirty-year-old vines are carefully tended: short pruning, hand harvesting and the absence of chemicals guarantee an exceptional raw material for pure, vibrant terroir wines.

Winemaking at the Domaine de la Renardière

At the Domaine de la Renardière, winemaking is a minimalist art aimed at revealing the essence of the terroir. The grapes, harvested by hand, are vinified and aged on a plot-by-plot basis, an approach that brings out the particularities of each parcel. Fermentations rely exclusively on indigenous yeasts, preserving the authenticity of the aromas. Aging takes place mainly in large oak casks and demi-muids, in a dressed-stone cellar, with no use of stainless steel. A minimal dose of sulphur (maximum 35 mg/l total SO₂) is used as the sole additive, ensuring natural and expressive wines. This low-interventionist philosophy, combined with biodynamic practices, produces cuvées of remarkable finesse that faithfully reflect the Jurassian terroir.

The cuvées of the Domaine de la Renardière

The Domaine de la Renardière offers a varied range of wines, from fruity reds to mineral whites, including Jurassian specialities such as vin jaune and vin de paille. Here is an overview of the cuvées:

Jurassique (Chardonnay)

Sourced from a blend of Chardonnays from the La Marcette terroir (Triassic red marls) and Caillot (limestone scree), this wine is aged 18 to 24 months in 400-litre barrels. Flavourful, it reveals slightly oxidative or mineral notes depending on the ageing, perfect for accompanying refined dishes.

1966 (Chardonnay)

Vinified by Léo Petit, this Chardonnay from vines planted in 1966 offers a lush richness balanced by mineral tension. Aged in oak, it captivates with its complexity and finesse.

Les Vianderies (Chardonnay)

From a terroir of gravel over marls, this white aged in demi-muids reveals a mineral reduction with buttery and toasty accents. A vibrant wine that gains in harmony over time.

Les Terrasses (Savagnin Ouillé)

From Savagnins planted on bituminous shale and Triassic marl soils, this ouillé wine, aged 12 months on the lees, offers an exotic fruitiness, a sharp acidity and an elegant salinity, ideal with white meats or fish.

Savagnin (de voile)

This oxidative cuvée, often a blend of vintages, is aged 40 months under a veil. Its complex aromas of walnut, orange and fino sherry make it a perfect companion for spiced dishes or a capon with morel mushrooms.

L'Oubliée (Chardonnay-Savagnin)

A blend of 75% late-harvested Chardonnay and 25% Savagnin with a lively acidity, aged in new barrels. This fascinating wine combines richness and freshness for a unique tasting experience.

Ploussard

This delicate red, typical of the Jura, is vinified from the Ploussard grape variety. Light in colour but structured, it offers a pure fruitiness and excellent ageing potential.

Trousseau à la Dame (Trousseau)

Denser and fruitier, this Trousseau captivates with its understated power and elegance, perfect for early drinking.

Pinot Noir

Made from 100% destemmed grapes, this Pinot Noir reveals a vibrant fruitiness and remarkable finesse, characteristic of the domaine's reds.

Crémant du Jura

A fresh and vibrant sparkling wine, crafted with care to complement aperitifs or festive occasions.

Vin Jaune

This vin jaune embodies the Jurassian tradition with its intense aromas and complexity, ideal for lovers of oxidative wines.

Vin de Paille

This naturally sweet wine, rich in notes of acacia, honey and saffron, offers a rare precision and elegance, perfect for desserts or contemplative tasting moments.

Macvin du Jura

A marc and grape juice liqueur, typical of the Jura, combining power and sweetness for a unique experience.

The Domaine de la Renardière is an essential address for lovers of Jura wines in search of authenticity and quality. Through organic and biodynamic viticulture, plot-by-plot winemaking and a deep respect for the terroir, Jean-Michel, Laurence and Léo Petit produce cuvées that capture the essence of the red marls of Pupillin.
