The grass of Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens in Gironde has since Tuesday, July 15 in the morning, an aftertaste of grand cru.
The truck carrying 18,000 bottles of the second wine from Château la Dominique - Saint Emilion (2011 vintage) overturned on the road. The driver, slightly injured during the accident, allegedly lost control of his vehicle. The cargo, which was to be labeled, crashed on the roadway.
2,000 bottles survived the impact. Nevertheless, the estate management ordered their destruction, considered unfit for sale; the quality of the wine could have been altered by the violence of the shock.
Neither the neighboring estate of Cheval Blanc, nor the company in charge of transport, Julien et Fils in Libourne, wished to comment on the origin and consequences of the accident.
Estimates vary, but losses could reach a sum ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 euros.
