Patrimonio, nestled in the north of the island around the Gulf of Saint-Florent, is unanimously recognised as the benchmark for age-worthy red wines in Corsica. Its clay-limestone terroir, rare on an island that is predominantly granitic, gives wines made from Nielluccio a tannic structure, acidity and minerality conducive to ageing. The finest cuvées from this area rival continental Mediterranean great wines in complexity. The particular microclimate of Patrimonio, sheltered from excessive heat by the surrounding hills, also contributes to preserving the freshness and elegance of the grapes at maturity.
