The wines of Clos Joliette are emblematic figures of the South-West. A tiny vineyard with a surface area of barely 2 ha, this rare wine with extremely low yields has almost become a myth. With only 1000 bottles produced per year, the estate owner further fuels the desire of enthusiasts by distributing them sparingly and at his whim.
Located on the heights of Jurançon, on puddingstone soil favoring drainage, the 90-year-old vines, facing east, are planted exclusively with Petit Manseng. The harvest is late (generally in December) thus allowing the warm climate of the region time to dry the grapes on the vine, enabling a natural concentration of sugars.
As for the wine elaboration, it has remained artisanal, in the purest tradition of the estate. The aging is done in barrels from the wines of Château de Fargues (Sauternes) for 3 to 4 years. Far from modern techniques, Clos Joliette has preserved the unique character that made it a renowned wine. Ranging from sweet to dry depending on the vintage, rich in alcohol, it nevertheless benefits from great acidity that enhances the balance of this wine with an extraordinary personality. And even if it is vinified dry, it will have a rather unique aromatic palette of white truffle and candied citrus, with great aging potential.
Managed for a long time with passion by the late Mrs. Migné, it now belongs to Mr. Renaud, also a wine merchant in Paris Place de la Nation, whose prices for recent wines are significantly higher (over 200 euros) than the older ones.
While the vintages from the 80s are not consistent and sometimes lack aromatic clarity, the wines from the 70s are astonishing in complexity, such as the remarkable Clos Joliette Jurançon sec 1976 or the Clos Joliette Jurançon 1985.
