Everything about Clos Joliette is out of the ordinary. This small estate of fewer than 2 hectares, located in the natural amphitheatre of Chapelle de Rousse, faces due East to make the most of the morning light, just as the finest estates of the Côte d'Or do. The vines are nearly 90 years old. Its owner practises particularly low yields (around 10 hl/ha) with a single grape variety: Petit Manseng. As a result, only 1,000 bottles are produced per year. They are not all released at the same time, but rather made available in dribs and drabs according to the owner's wishes. In terms of ageing, the wines mature in barrels previously used for several vintages at Château de Fargues (Sauternes) for 3 to 4 years. Do not assume, however, that the estate produces only sweet wines. The sugar level varies from one year to the next, with some vintages yielding dry wines.
