Maison Raday

Maison Raday wines: buy at the best price

Maison Raday embodies one of the most secretive and fascinating ventures in all of Champagne. Founded in 2018 by Valentin Tribaut in Romery, at the heart of the Vallée de la Marne, this micro négociant house produces barely a few thousand bottles per year, crafted from grapes sourced exclusively from plots farmed using organic and biodynamic methods. Each cuvée bears the name of the winegrower who cultivated the grapes, reflecting the philosophy of a project entirely devoted to respect for the terroir, the living world, and work in the vineyard.

History of Maison Raday

The story of Maison Raday begins in 2018, when Valentin Tribaut decided to leave the family estate Champagne Tribaut Schloesser to devote himself fully to a personal project. From a long line of winegrowers, he chose to forge his own path by settling in Romery, in the Vallée de la Marne. The name Raday pays homage to the small river that runs through the villages of Romery, Cormoyeux and Fleury la Rivière, the ancestral homeland of the Tribaut family and the true backbone of the local viticultural landscape.

Deliberately absent from the web and social media, the house cultivates discretion as a second nature. Valentin Tribaut has chosen a free, confidential project entirely devoted to the vine and the wine. His approach is built on collaboration with growers who share his vision: absolute respect for living matter, organic or biodynamic viticulture, and minimal intervention in the cellar. His first collaboration was formed in 2018 with his cousin Aurélien Lurquin, one of the most admired names in contemporary Champagne, followed in 2019 by that with Régis Poissinet, a biodynamic vigneron in Cuchery. Barely 3,000 bottles leave the cellars each year.

Terroirs and Vines of Maison Raday

Maison Raday relies on two exceptional plots located at the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. The first, Les Crayères du Levant, in Romery, is farmed by Aurélien Lurquin. This lieu-dit rests on chalk and sand soils, an ideal exposure for the Pinot Noir planted in 2003 and the Chardonnay, some of whose vines are over seventy years old. Soil work is carried out by horse, without trimming, in strict respect for the natural balance and surrounding biodiversity.

The second plot, Les Froids Vents, is located in Cuchery. It is farmed by Régis Poissinet, a vigneron certified in biodynamics since 2020. This singular terroir, composed of limestone and green clay, is home to Meunier vines planted in the early 1990s. Régis produces his own compost there and works the soil with rare precision to manage yields and fully express the typicity of the Meunier grape variety, long underestimated but here magnified. Each plot, through its microclimate and geology, brings a unique signature to the cuvées of Maison Raday.

Winemaking at Maison Raday

Winemaking at Maison Raday is conducted with an almost monastic level of rigour. All grapes are vinified entirely in Burgundian oak barrels (one new barrel for every four used barrels), using only indigenous yeasts and an extremely sparing use of sulphur. Ageing lasts ten to eleven months, sometimes up to twenty-four months depending on the vintage, with no racking or superfluous intervention, so that the wine builds gently on its fine lees.

The wine is then bottled — now under cork (a choice made from the 2019 vintage onwards to encourage a more expressive evolution and bring a natural tannicity from the cork) — for a second fermentation followed by a long ageing on laths of a minimum of three years. Disgorgement is carried out without dosage: all Maison Raday champagnes are Brut Nature (0 g/l). This absolute discipline gives rise to precise, sincere, vibrant wines in which the signature of each terroir and the work of each vigneron can be read with clarity.

The Cuvées of Maison Raday

Champagne Ramosa Ripa Brut Nature: a signature cuvée born from the collaboration between Valentin Tribaut and his cousin Aurélien Lurquin, from grapes grown in the Les Crayères du Levant plot in Romery. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from biodynamically farmed vines, some of which are over seventy years old, this champagne is aged eleven months in oak barrels and then three years in bottle on the lees. With no dosage, it reveals a pale gold colour, a nose of candied citrus, lemon and a delicate buttery touch, a taut, chalky palate with a long, mineral finish. Confidential production of around 1,500 bottles per vintage.

Champagne Meunier d'Ailleurs Brut Nature: an intense and profound Blanc de Noirs, crafted entirely from 100% Meunier sourced from the Les Froids Vents lieu-dit in Cuchery, farmed biodynamically by Régis Poissinet. The vines, planted in the early 1990s on limestone and green clay soils, yield a dense and energetic wine. Vinification of eleven to twenty-four months in Burgundian barrels depending on the vintage, followed by a long ageing on lees in bottle. With no dosage, this cuvée reveals a bright gold colour, fine bubbles, a bouquet of white-fleshed fruit, ripe lemon and sharp mineral notes, with a vibrant, straight and persistent palate. Limited release of approximately 1,500 to 2,000 bottles per vintage, accompanied by a few magnums.
