Domaine Marcoux, located in the Rhône Valley and founded in 1975, belongs to the Armenier family. The vines have been in the family for centuries, but it was Philippe Armenier who, joining his father at the estate, pushed him to create the Domaine Marcoux brand, and thus to stop selling the harvest to négociants. From the 1980s onward, Domaine Marcoux built up a significant clientele abroad, leaving only a quarter of its production to the French market. Sophie Armenier joined her family at Domaine Marcoux in 1988 and undertook a conversion to organic and biodynamic farming from 1991. Philippe Armenier left domaine de Marcoux at the end of the 1990s, and his two sisters (Sophie and Catherine) now manage the Marcoux estate alone, having expanded the vineyard area to 21 hectares. Sophie Armenier's son joined Domaine Marcoux in 2015 and looks after the estate's vines with particular care, spread across 7 named plots in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

At Domaine Marcoux, the grapes are harvested at full ripeness, and the Marcoux wines possess a rare naturalness and depth, an energy and natural power on the palate without relying on pronounced oakiness. The Marcoux wines can be described as classics, typified by ripe old grenaches and suited to aging, which will bring them flavor and balance. The Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a parcel wine of 4.5 ha from the Charbonnière and Esqueirons sectors near the center of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, made with 99% grenache. Chiseled, pure, deep, and entirely elegant, with a finish of black cherry and cocoa, this cuvée reaches the pinnacle of production in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Beyond the Vieilles Vignes cuvée, Domaine Marcoux offers 2 other cuvées: a red Rhône and a white Rhône also in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Made from 80% grenache for the red wine and 70% Roussanne for the Marcoux Châteauneuf blanc, very seductive when young, with notes of yellow fruits and a generous palate. If in the early 2000s, Domaine Marcoux sometimes appeared to produce highly concentrated wines, all the cuvées now find their balance. These white wines regularly rank among the finest of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and have gained in minerality and salinity. Domaine Marcoux also produces an excellent Lirac rouge as well as a Côtes du Rhône red and 2 Vins de Pays (red and white) named Raisin de Loup. The Raisin de Loup blanc is very rare — fewer than 1,000 bottles — and made from the Clairette rose grape variety (the pink form of the white clairette).
