Wine 1950 Bourgogne

The 1950 vintage in Burgundy represents a correct and very abundant year, born of a generous harvest whose high yields resulted in a certain dilution. The whites (Chardonnay) most often come out ahead — fresh and flavourful, with an appealing charm, showing fine expressions in the Côte de Beaune (Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet) and in Chablis. The reds (Pinot Noir), lighter and more supple, seduce with their fruit and easy approachability, in a short-ageing format, with more consistent success in the Côte de Nuits. The ageing potential was limited, tempered by the abundance of the harvest. The vast majority of cuvées have today disappeared or are well past their peak. Situated between the great 1949 and the weak 1951, the 1950 remains a vintage of quantity, more convincing in white than in red.
