Wine 1951 Bourgogne

The 1951 vintage in Burgundy remains a disastrous year, often cited among the weakest of the decade, marked by a cold and rainy season that severely compromised ripeness. The reds (Pinot Noir) suffer heavily: diluted, lean and vegetal, they are sorely lacking in substance, with only the rarest of exceptions. The whites (Chardonnay) are equally disappointing, diluted and flat, from Meursault to Chablis. The ageing potential was virtually nil, and virtually all cuvées have now either disappeared or are well past any form of enjoyment. Bracketed by the abundant 1950 and the structured 1952, the 1951 remains a vintage best forgotten, of anecdotal interest only to the most dedicated collector.
