Wine 1958 Bourgogne

The 1958 vintage in Burgundy remains a modest and difficult year, marked by a dreary season and incomplete ripeness. The reds (Pinot Noir) suffered as a result: light, diluted and variable, they lack concentration, with rare successes in the Côte de Nuits. The whites (Chardonnay) fared slightly better, in a fresh and understated style, from Meursault to Chablis, though without truly shining. The aging potential was low, and the vast majority of cuvées have today disappeared or are well past any point of interest for drinking. Only the rarest perfectly preserved bottles still hold any interest. Sandwiched between the austere 1957 and the sunny 1959, the 1958 remains a minor vintage, of anecdotal interest to collectors alone.
