The 1957 vintage in Burgundy is a classic and austere year, shaped by a spring frost that reduced yields and a cool season that made ripening difficult. The style bears its mark: firm, upright wines endowed with high acidity. The reds (Pinot Noir) prove tannic, structured and slow to open, sometimes severe in their youth but destined for long aging, with fine expressions in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny). The whites (Chardonnay), more restrained, show vivid and taut profiles, from Meursault to Chablis. The aging potential was real, carried by this acidic framework. Today, the rare perfectly preserved reds have finally shed their austerity, but the individual bottle has become decisive. Between the very weak 1956 and the modest 1958, the 1957 remains a vintage defined by structure and longevity.
