A domain under the microscope: Boisson Vadot!

This week, the Vins & Millésimes editorial team turns its attention to Domaine Boisson Vadot: Burgundies on the rise!

Domaine Boisson-Vadot in Meursault, little known just a few years ago, has been attracting considerable attention over the past four vintages. Why? The superb precision and depth of its Meursault, Auxey-Duresses, generic Bourgogne and Aligoté wines, and the consistency of its reds—notably Beaune, Pommard and Monthélie—sold under three labels:

– The father, Bernard Boisson-Vadot (3.5 ha), an emblematic figure: passionate, principled and demanding;

– The son, Pierre Boisson (3.5 ha), who oversees all the family’s winemaking. Dynamic and exceptionally talented, he has benefited greatly from his close ties to the Coche-Dury family and his arrival at the family estate.

– And finally, the daughter, Anne Boisson (3.5 ha).

The estate’s vines were planted between 1940 and 1950 and cover approximately 8 ha in total. For this family business, tending the vines is no small undertaking: they farm them the traditional way, without chemical fertilizers or systemic treatments, and plow the soils. Aging is relatively long, with little new oak to avoid an overly pronounced oak influence. The Meursault wines are an exception, though the proportion of new oak remains low: just 20%. The wines are not filtered. Beyond that, all winemaking decisions are made according to the vintage, so that nothing is set in stone and nature and its particular character can express themselves…

The estate’s best-known cuvées are:

Anne Boisson Aligoté

A wine from 60-year-old vines planted exclusively in Meursault! An unusual Aligoté, with a certain richness, lovely purity and an enticing aromatic profile of fresh citrus, floral notes and a hint of toast.

Pierre Boisson Meursault

Made from several fine parcels within the appellation, this Meursault perfectly exemplifies the success of the "Boisson" style, which some might too readily liken to the "Coche-Dury" signature.

These Meursault wines are particularly notable for their purity and balance. Toasty aromas on opening give way to delicate citrus and floral notes after decanting and/or a few years of aging.

Boisson Vadot Meursault Les Grands Charrons

“Les Grands Charrons” lies near Gouttes d’Or, on a gently sloping, predominantly limestone hillside opposite the village. This full-bodied Meursault strikes a fine balance between richness and tension, offering superb notes of toasted almonds, citrus, yellow fruit and limestone, backed by excellent length. Already enjoyable after two to three years, it will be even better with age.

Boisson Vadot Meursault Les Chevalières

"Les Chevalières" faces northeast and lies near Meix Chavaux and Luchets, on a very stony, cool, wind-exposed site. This wine has superb minerality and offers lovely notes of fresh citrus and flowers. The very long palate is focused, taut and mineral. A wine built to age.

Boisson Vadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

“Les Genevrières” lies between Les Poruzots and Les Charmes, on predominantly limestone soil. This great wine, from one of Burgundy’s finest climats and built for very long aging, immediately reveals the stature of its origins: concentration, complexity, superb minerality, tension, balance and incredible length.

A winning combination: this unusual, complementary trio of father, son and daughter deserves the full attention of wine lovers seeking rising stars whose wines may soon be impossible to find!
