The white wines of Savoie are mainly produced from indigenous grape varieties found almost nowhere else in the world. Jacquère is the most widely cultivated white grape variety in the region: light, lively and mineral, it produces wines that are perfect for accompanying Savoyard fondues and raclettes. Altesse (also known as Roussette) produces more structured and aromatic whites, particularly in the Roussette de Savoie and Roussette de Seyssel appellations. Marsanne, locally nicknamed Ermitage, expresses itself with great character in the Chignin-Bergeron appellation. Finally, Chasselas, very prevalent around Lake Geneva, offers delicate wines with floral notes.
