The Niellon estate is first and foremost a family story in Burgundy. Three generations of winemakers united to produce wines of consistent quality, vintage after vintage, despite the capricious climate of recent years and the cruel repetition of destructive storms before the harvest.
Located in Chassagne Montrachet and managed using sustainable farming practices, this 7.5-hectare estate is renowned for its great white wines from the Côte de Beaune (Chassagne Montrachet village, Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru les Vergers, Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Les Chaumées, Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Clos Saint Jean, Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Les Chenevottes, Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru La Maltroie, Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Les Champgains, Batard Montrachet, Bourgogne Aligoté, Chevalier Montrachet), as well as for its small production of red wines (Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Clos Saint Jean, Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru La Maltroie, Chassagne Montrachet village) which represents one third of the volumes. If Niellon wines sell out so quickly on the market, it's because they always present a unique concentration and longevity, due to perfect mastery of the elements (low yields, old vines, measured chaptalization), and this at prices that are still affordable in a Burgundy that has been experiencing significant inflation in recent times, especially for its star estates (Leflaive, Comtes Lafon, Coche Dury, Rousseau, etc.).
In the estate's latest news, recent conclusions from great critics such as Michel Bettane or Neal Martin (Robert Parker WA) suggest that the brand new 2013 vintage is shaping up at Domaine Niellon as a vintage for long aging, combining remarkable freshness and very beautiful body. Very promising!
