Treasures buried in the cellars of Bollinger house!

During a major inventory of bottles stored in the estate's cellars, a Bollinger house intern discovered vintages buried for years!

An extraordinary discovery

In 2010, during an inventory, an intern discovered a small room located beneath Madame Bollinger's house. Old dusty crates and empty bottles, abandoned for years, were found there.

However, at the end of August 2012, during a second inventory carried out at the request of cellar master Gilles Descôtes, another intern uncovered, behind the crates stored in this famous room, full bottles of champagne!

On certain racks, the following inscriptions can be determined: Aÿ 1914, Verzenay 1894, Le Mesnil 1912… At the back of this room, bottles are discovered, looking particularly old, with the mention "CB 14". The estate's archives reveal that this is a bottling code dating from 1830 (Bollinger house was founded in 1829)!

The estate then endeavored to restore the bottles that were still full: changing the cork, adjusting the levels...

Bollinger house: a living memory of Champagne

This discovery is part of the initiative begun by Gilles Descôtes to catalog and showcase these old bottles preserved in the immense cellars of Bollinger house.

One thing is certain, this discovery is surely not the last!
