TASTING REVIEW
Find the review of the magnificent tasting of November 16th around Mythical Great Wines!
Gold color, old gold, light orange
Intense nose, evolved but without major oxidation, on dried fruits, toasted notes, mushrooms, honey and candied lemon.
Great volume and beautiful complexity, it is rather long even if a bitterness appears in the finish. A wine quite typical of the vintage (volume) and the era (significant dosage).
Golden color
Petrol, candied citrus and honey.
Sustained acidity but on a beautiful flesh. It disappoints however by average complexity and fairly low length
Golden color
Nose of hydrocarbon, candied citrus, cream, stone and orange peel
Rather linear palate on a creamy and fat register, quite unusual for this cuvée. Fairly low aromatic expression at opening but which evolves very well in the glass.
1st Intruder - Hatzidakis Pyrgos 2008 - century-old vines from Santorini
Surprising copper color
Nose of quince, apple, marmalade, apricot and dried fruits
Very high levels of acidity and fat, with phenomenal concentration with quite perceptible tannins for a white. The palate is saline on a very great length that finishes clean, without any bitterness.
Guigal Côte Rôtie La Turque 2006
Ruby color with marked evolution
Nose of black fruits, meaty, floral and vanilla A silky touch, on aromas of tobacco, black olive, spices, with a beautiful refreshing acid structure.
Ruby color with less marked evolution than that of the previous wine, even some violet reflections
Nose of black fruits, graphite, cocoa, licorice, violet, blackberry, pepper, some animal notes (more or less perceptible depending on the taster).
Powerful, concentrated and straight despite a certain discretion on the palate.
2nd intruder - Chateau
Latour 1964
Tile-red color, very evolved, not surprising given the level (high shoulder) of the bottle
Oxidative, smoky and bloody nose
The palate is less bothersome than the nose, concentrated with still marked tannins, on a length where smoky and precious wood persist.
Ruby color, marked tile-red reflections
Nose of blood orange, raspberry, flowers, earth, undergrowth and leather
The palate is superbly smooth. The fruit is radiant. Freshness, concentration and length are superb. A wine of great pleasure.
Ruby color, slight evolution with even slight purple reflections
Floral nose, sweet spices, earth, red and black fruits, still restrained
Splendid balance, tannins still present but of very beautiful maturity, endless length even if still discreet.
Mythical vintage at Margaux... The promise is more than kept.
Old gold color
Exotic nose, loquat, pineapple, mandarin but a hint of mushroom that suggests a possible appearance of grey rot in this harvest.
Rich but digestible palate, balanced by good acidity even if a slight bitterness is found in the finish.
