Appellation d'origine contrôlée and Cru Bourgeois of Margaux
Located north of Bordeaux (left bank), in the commune of Labarde, Château Siran is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur of the prestigious Margaux appellation, which has belonged to the Miailhe family since 1859. The estate cultivates 36 hectares of vines (ancient alluvial terroir of deep sandy-gravelly type), of which 25 ha fall under the Margaux appellation and 11 ha under the Haut Médoc appellation. The average age of the vines is 31 years, and the entire estate benefits from sustainable farming practices. The vineyard is composed of 4 grape varieties: 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc.
Château Siran produces 3 cuvées of red wine, including the 1st wine under the Siran label. This fine wine presents itself as an excellent, deeply coloured and fragrant Margaux wine with good ageing potential (8 to 15 years and more, thanks to its high proportion of Petit Verdot). In its best vintages, Siran could claim to reach the level of a fifth classified growth of Margaux, as its wines have the potential. The château also offers a second wine called « S de Siran », sourced from a selection of the estate's young vines and of a more supple character. Finally, a third wine called « St Jacques de Siran » is offered under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, as it comes from the 11 ha of vines on the estate located on the border but outside the Margaux appellation. The blend of this third wine contains no Petit Verdot, and its ageing involves a majority of tank, making it less tannic. Among the best recent vintages of Château Siran, one finds the years 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2005 and 2000.
