A winemaker rich in many exceptional cuvées
A former chef, François Villard has managed in 25 years to build a 25-hectare estate in the northern Rhône. He favours late harvesting in order to achieve beautiful concentration. For those who can wait a few years, his Saint-Joseph Reflets will delight Syrah lovers. His Côte-Rôtie Le Gallet Blanc is probably the best value for money in the appellation. He does not hesitate to include 50% whole-cluster grapes and 1% Viognier. La Brocarde, for its part, incorporates 13% Viognier but only 35% whole-cluster grapes. The latter stands as a reference among the greatest Côte-Rôtie wines. Both cuvées are aged for 18 months in barrels before being released. Les Terrasses du Palat and De Poncins are also among the iconic cuvées from Condrieu. La Villa Pontciana, also from this appellation, resembles no other wine so Burgundian is its style.
