A winemaker with many outstanding cuvées
A former chef, François Villard has managed to rise in 25 years to the head of a domaine de 25 hectares in the Northern Rhône. He likes to harvest late in order to achieve beautiful concentrations. For those willing to wait a few years, his Saint-Joseph Reflets will surprise syrah lovers. His Côte-Rôtie Le Gallet Blanc is probably the best value for money in the appellation. He does not hesitate to include 50% whole clusters and 1% viognier. La Brocarde, for its part, incorporates 13% viognier but only 35% whole clusters. The latter stands as a reference among the greatest Côte-Rôtie. These two cuvées are aged for 18 months in barrels before being released. Les Terrasses du Palat and De Poncins are also among the iconic cuvées of Condrieu. The Villa Pontciana, also from this appellation, resembles no other wine, so Burgundian is its style.
