History of Champagne Pierre Trichet

The story of Champagne Pierre Trichet began in 1947, when Antoinette Trichet and her husband Edmond planted their first vines in the village of Trois-Puits, just outside Reims. They laid the foundations for a family venture that would span generations. In 1961, Antoinette’s son René Trichet and Thérèse Didier carried on the work, planting more vines and putting down roots in this exceptional terroir. In 1971, they produced their first Champagne cuvée, marking the beginning of Maison Trichet-Didier.

The estate reached another milestone in 1989, when Antoinette’s grandson Pierre Trichet took the reins. Driven by a passion for his craft and a love of his terroir, he expanded the vineyard to eight hectares of Premier and Grand Cru vines. In 2015, he modernized the labels, adding his name to create "Champagne Pierre Trichet" and the words "Handcrafted Champagne since 1947"—a tribute to his ancestors and the tradition that shaped the house. Today, supported by experienced director Stéphane Dubois, Pierre Trichet continues to innovate while preserving the house’s values.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Champagne Pierre Trichet

The estate lies in the prestigious Montagne de Reims wine region, celebrated for its rich chalky soils and exposed hillsides, which are well suited to growing Champagne grape varieties. Its vines extend across several Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages, including Trois-Puits, Montbré, Rilly-la-Montagne, Ludes and Cormontreuil, as well as the Grand Cru village of Verzy. This distinctive terroir gives Pierre Trichet champagnes an aromatic profile marked by finesse and balance, highlighting the character of each grape variety.

Pierre Trichet favors a thoughtful approach to viticulture, with partial grass cover to preserve biodiversity and environmentally conscious practices. The estate also stands out for introducing uncommon grape varieties such as Pinot White, a once-forgotten variety that Pierre Trichet recently brought back to enrich the diversity and depth of his cuvées.

Winemaking at Champagne Pierre Trichet

At Champagne Pierre Trichet, winemaking is truly an art. The grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand, ensuring impeccable quality from the very start. The wines are then made and aged in cellars carved eight meters deep into the chalk, providing ideal conditions for their aromas to develop and the wines to mature.

When blending, Pierre Trichet favors wines with rich profiles and a roundness on the palate that leaves a lasting impression. "I like wines with a distinctive nose, dimension and curves. I’m not looking for absolute perfection, but for character," says Pierre. His artisanal approach creates generous champagnes with fruity notes reminiscent of baskets of fresh fruit. Pierre Trichet ensures that each cuvée expresses its own unique character rather than pursuing uniform perfection.
