The Champagne Marguet estate, whose history dates back to 1875, has been managed since 2008 by Benoit Marguet, fifth generation of this family estate of Champagne. Benoit Marguet pays particular attention to his 7 hectares of vines in Ambonnay and Bouzy (0.7ha). This Champagne vineyard is treated with biodynamics (Demeter certified since 2013), but also with phytotherapy (infusion and decoction of medicinal plants) and aromatherapy (essential oils). Close to his terroir and having the will to reconnect with the natural balance of things, Benoit Marguet set up the work of the soil with draft horses in 2010. His convictions and his champagnes won over more than one and Benoit Marguet is one of the most spectacular flights in Champagne, with an undeniable ecological, natural and social commitment.
Benoit Marguet produces winegrowers' champagne, authentic and vibrant champagnes. Among these creations, a cuvee of Champagne 1er cru singular: Champagne Sapience. Champagne Sapience is some grapes from Vincent Laval, David Leclapart and Benoit Lahaye, all certified organic. Sapience is much more than a champagne, it is an “alchemy of nature and men. Like a life energy, Sapience invites the awakening of consciences.” This unique Champagne cuvee is one of the first exceptional champagnes certified from organically grown grapes. A vertical tasting of the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 vintages made in 2014 will have marked the minds of the happy amateurs present that day.
At the Champagne Marguet estate, nature and the living are at the center of concerns: Benoit Marguet creates energetic Grand Cru champagnes like a photograph of his terroir with his famous cuvee de Champagne Shaman (which also exists in rose Champagne), his cuvees of champagne but also a range of wines: Ambonnay, Bouzy, Ay, Avize and Cramant. Part of the estate's production comes from the purchase of organic grapes grown on the superb terroirs of the Cote des Blancs, notably Cramant, Avize and Chouilly. The barrels used for the breeding of champagnes are also meticulously selected because, according to Benoit Marguet, the woods are linked together from a cosmo-telluric point of view which he wishes to maintain balance. In the cellar, a tiny amount of sulphite is used for the production of champagne, only when absolutely necessary, as in 2015 and 2016 when the risk was higher than in 2012, 2013 and 2014 where white champagnes had no sulfites added.
